On March 18, 2026, as the vibrant spring atmosphere filled the Hejin Economic and Technological Development Zone in Shanxi Province, Huasheng Power Co., Ltd. of Shanxi Sunshine Coking Group was bustling with activity. As the excavator’s bucket powerfully scooped up the first shovel of earth, Shanxi Sunshine Coking’s 1×170 t/h CDQ-Supporting Distributed Power Generation Project (incl. Civil Engineering and Installation Works) undertaken by our Huatai Yongchuang, officially broke ground.
The core of this project lies in the construction of a 25MW standby air-cooled condensing steam turbine generator set, along with supporting low-voltage substation and air-cooling island structures. It’s a critical part of Sunshine Coking Group’s endeavor to ensure safe and efficient production and enhance energy utilization efficiency.
Unlike conventional new construction projects, this project involves a detailed retrofit carried out under the premise of “no production shutdown and no disruption to operations.” The project not only involves the construction of large-scale structures such as the new air-cooling island but also requires in-depth renovations to existing factory buildings, significantly increasing the difficulty and complexity of construction.
“The biggest challenge is achieving a seamless integration of the old and new systems within a limited space.” The construction site is surrounded on all sides by existing buildings, severely restricting the work area. To address this, Huatai’s project department formulated a construction strategy of “working from the inside out, with new construction and renovation proceeding simultaneously.” To address the challenge of hoisting the large-scale steam turbine generator stator, the team innovatively proposed using an SQT280 folding-boom crane for the operation, effectively avoiding the enormous costs and safety risks associated with removing the factory roof.
For risk points associated with “high-risk construction projects”, such as high-rise formwork, deep excavations, and concurrent multi-trade operations, Huatai’s project department demonstrated a highly meticulous and rigorous management style, with plans to organize multiple expert review meetings to deliberate thoroughly over critical operation plans, such as stator hoisting and formwork support, to ensure absolute safety. In addition, for the operation of connecting new and old pipelines, a detailed contingency plan has been formulated to minimize the impact on the existing production system.
The project manager stated, “Our aim is not simply building a project, but delivering a masterpiece.” Facing the tight 213-day construction schedule and rigorous standards applied to every weld and every cable, the project team will prioritize “workplace safety” and adhere to “project quality” as its guiding principles, making every effort to ensure on-schedule commissioning of the project.
Huatai Yongchuang and Sunshine Coking have collaborated on numerous large-scale projects in the past. This project not only demonstrates Huatai’s professional capabilities but also underscores Sunshine Coking’s deep trust in Huatai. Huatai’s project department will consistently uphold Huatai’s motto - “meticulousness and rigor, timely feedback, swift action, a sense of responsibility, and a focus on results” - to ensure smooth progress of the project.
